Women's Empowerment Programme – Kwali Community
On 5 September 2026, the Platform for Women in Economics and Development Foundation (PWEDF) carried out a Women's Empowerment Programme in the Kwali area of Abuja, reaching women across three communities — Bubuta, Bako, and Kwali.
The programme was designed to equip women with practical knowledge, skills, and confidence that can contribute to their personal well-being and economic independence.
Throughout the programme, the women participated actively in sessions covering personal hygiene, business development, and practical vocational skills. The hygiene session focused on helping women better understand how to care for themselves and maintain healthy hygiene practices.
The entrepreneurship and business sessions provided practical guidance on how to start a business, manage profits, grow an existing business, and position a small business for future expansion. The goal was not simply to teach the women how to start businesses, but to give them knowledge that can help them make better financial and business decisions.
The programme also included hands-on training in the production of everyday household products, including liquid soap, bar soap, and air freshener. These practical skills were introduced as potential income-generating opportunities, giving participants knowledge they can build upon and potentially turn into sustainable businesses.
The women were highly engaged throughout the programme, actively participating in the sessions, asking questions, and showing genuine enthusiasm to learn. Some participants shared that while other organisations had visited their communities to provide skills training, they felt that PWEDF took the time to go into greater detail and demonstrated a level of commitment and passion that they deeply appreciated.
At the end of the programme, PWEDF made a commitment to return to the communities with materials to help the women take the next step towards starting or developing their businesses. This follow-up support reflects PWEDF's belief that true empowerment goes beyond a single training session — providing knowledge is an important first step, but creating opportunities for women to apply, practise, and build upon that knowledge is what can help turn skills into sustainable livelihoods.
Together, we are creating opportunities for women to learn, grow, and build a more economically empowered future.
