The Platform for Women in Economics and Development Foundation (PWEDF) conducted a community outreach in Waru, Kuje Area Council, empowering women and the girl child with practical skills for economic independence.

The outreach focused on hands-on skills training including tie and dye, bead making, hair styling, and other vocational skills. Participants also received comprehensive education on financial literacy, equipping them with the knowledge to manage, save, and grow their income.

This initiative mirrors PWEDF's earlier outreach in the Igufe community, reinforcing the Foundation's commitment to bringing sustainable empowerment directly to grassroots communities.

PWEDF promised to return to the Waru community after the skills training is completed, bringing tools and equipment to empower the women with the resources they need to start up their own businesses and achieve financial independence.

On October 1st, 2026, 2026, the Platform for Women in Economics and Development Foundation (PWEDF) embarked on a transformative mission to the Gufe Community in Kuje Area Council, Abuja, Nigeria, dedicated to empowering women to achieve financial freedom through practical skills and knowledge.

The initiative combined theoretical education with hands-on practical training. PWEDF facilitators conducted comprehensive workshops covering critical topics including women's economic empowerment, personal hygiene, maternal health care during pregnancy, and self-care practices — equipping women with essential knowledge for healthier, more dignified lives.

The centerpiece of the event was intensive skills training in income-generating activities. Women learned to produce high-value products including natural soap, fragrant perfumes, and toilet disinfectants — all skills they can immediately apply to create sustainable livelihoods. Beyond classroom instruction, participants engaged in practical, on-site production sessions where they manufactured these products under expert guidance.

The event concluded with the distribution of all soap and products created during the practical training directly to the participating women — empowering them not only with knowledge and skills, but with tangible starter products they can use or sell to begin their entrepreneurial journey.

This initiative exemplified PWEDF's commitment to bridging the gap between education and economic opportunity, proving that with the right tools, knowledge, and support, rural women can transform their circumstances and build pathways to financial independence.

PWEDF's team visited Gufe Primary School in Kuje Area Council, Abuja, as part of the Foundation's Education Support and Community Outreach initiative. The visit brought together PWEDF volunteers, community leaders, and school staff to engage directly with pupils and families.

During the visit, PWEDF members distributed educational materials and shared the Foundation's vision of empowering women and girls through access to education and economic opportunity. Children received booklets and resources designed to inspire a culture of learning and ambition from an early age.

The team engaged with school administrators and elders, discussing how PWEDF's programs could be extended into the school community — including mentorship for girls, financial literacy for mothers, and advocacy for girls' continued education.

This grassroots engagement reflects PWEDF's belief that lasting change begins in communities and classrooms, and that supporting children's education is foundational to building economically empowered future generations.
